Monotype Imaging plans periodic releases of ESQ Mobile fonts. Designs will be based on distinctiveness and appropriateness for UI applications and for the ability to convey themes such as “athletic” or “powerful.” Fonts may be hand-tuned to ensure optimal legibility. In some cases, character shapes will be modified to maximize readability on small screens. Selected fonts will be sourced from thousands of fonts in the Monotype, Linotype and ITC libraries or designed from scratch for the mobile environment. Monotype Imaging will also engineer OEM-specified fonts for mobile phone use. All fonts must pass quality assurance testing to ensure performance and high-quality display on a variety of screen sizes.
