HOW WILL MEMBERSHIP IN THE CAUT DEFENCE FUND HELP MY FACULTY UNION AT OTHER TIMES?
The Fund provides two major advantages for members at all times 1. An advantage at the bargaining table Knowing that your union has access to the financial resources of a strike fund forces the employer bargaining team to take your position at the table more seriously. 2. Financial support for litigation The CAUT Defence Fund also provides financial assistance in the form of a loan or a grant in two additional circumstances Firstly, should your faculty union need to initiate litigation against their governing board for alleged unfair labour practices or for failure to bargain in good faith, then the Fund can provide assistance in underwriting the legal costs. Secondly, the Fund will aid faculty unions that find their collective bargaining rights, including the right to strike, are being restricted or eliminated by legislation.
