How will Laidlaw Energys Ellicottville, NY biomass project generate electricity and dry lumber?
Whole tree chips and other similar forms of clean biomass will be placed into the facilitys fuel delivery system, where it will be automatically conveyed to a Wellons wood boiler, which is a state-of-the-art combustion system designed specifically for wood fuel. The resulting energy released into the Wellons boiler produces high pressure steam that will then be piped to two steam turbine/generators. The turbine/generators will generate electricity for plant and dry kiln operations and the excess electricity will be delivered to the electric grid for public use. After the steam exits the turbine, it is cooled so that it can be converted back into a liquid (condensate) and be pumped back to the boiler in order to start the cycle once again. Excess heat from this process will be used to provide heat to custom kiln dry hardwood lumber for area mills and lumber businesses. The use of the excess heat to custom kiln dry hardwood lumber makes the plant highly efficient as compared to other for
