How will Java affect EIS core mission?
Java and Tamino directly support the core mission of EIS. EIS attempts to provide leadership and support in administrative programming by innovating technologies, training developers, contributing to a robust IT infrastructure on campus, leading in use of resources, and creating software (see www.utexas.edu/its/eis/about/what.html ). Java and Tamino are technologies that will diversify the administrative infrastructure in positive ways (making it easier to add complex functionality, access outside data sources, integrate bought software, and so on); we intend to provide training and support for departments who want to use these technologies. One of EIS’s primary goals is to support business analysis at the University. Our own business is akin to a “tool-and-die maker”; we work with Systems to provide the building blocks, training, tools, and technical framework for other groups as they pursue solutions to their areas’ challenges.
