How will IUSD resolve the projected deficit?
To bridge the district’s gap between revenue and expenditures in 2010-11, the Board of Education on March 16 reluctantly voted to approve a number of measures, including four district-wide furlough days for 2009-10 and eight for 2010-11; increased class-sizes in grades one through three and nine; reductions at the District Office level; the reallocation of categorical dollars from programs that are now flexible as result of recent legislation; as well as the use of onetime dollars. As a result, the Board was able to certify the district’s Second Interim Report as “positive,” meaning IUSD is on target to meet its financial obligations, though another shortfall is expected in 2011-12 if state revenues fail to improve.
