How will interdisciplinary research be accommodated?
We commissioned a study on the implications of using bibliometric analysis for interdisciplinary research which found no evidence that interdisciplinary work is systematically less cited. The bibliometrics process will normalise research papers according to the field in which they were published, regardless of the subject group with which they are associated for the purposes of aggregating the results. Papers in multidisciplinary journals can be assigned to appropriate fields. We will do further work on this issue and would welcome feedback on particular issues that we should consider.
