For all new unemployment insurance (UI) claims filed on or after December 1, 2008, and for all additional and reopened UI claims and new, additional and reopened Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) claims filed on or after March 25, 2009, the State of Maryland has replaced paper unemployment insurance checks with the Maryland Unemployment Insurance (UI) Benefit Prepaid Debit Card. Once you have been issued a debit card, all payments for which you are eligible will be issued on the debit card. This Visa debit card will be issued from Citibank within 10 days of filing a claim. Receipt and activation of the card does not mean that you are automatically eligible to receive unemployment insurance benefits.
