How will i no if my horse is heated on her leg?
Signs of pain include: Head nodding on one side but not the other (even slight nod). The pain is on the side where the head is UP, not down. Not tracking up properly. Most horses track up – their back feet go down right on top of the track left by the front foot. Watch your horse when you get her to see how she tracks; that way you’ll know what’s normal for her. If this changes, it’s a sign of problems. Horses that track up on one side more than the other are lame. The short-strided leg is okay; the pain is in the other leg. Trotting the horse in a little circle in each direction often reveals problems. If the horse goes differently one direction than the other, there’s a problem. Watch your horse when she’s standing still. If she’s camped under (hind legs both drawn in under her body) then both front legs are sore (often seen in laminitis). If she’s “pointing” – i.e., holding one front foot out in front of her, hoof on the ground but out in front – that’s a sign of pain in that foot.
