Make sure your hair is clean, and conditioned. It doesn’t really matter on the shampoo, but generally a non-frizz shampoo is best, and don’t use lots of conditioner. Only use it on the ends of your hair. Blow drying your hair straight makes a big difference. So run a comb through your hair as you blow dry, and make sure the hair is styled (ie fringe put in) before you dry it. Get a big butterfly clip and scoop up large layers of your hair at a time, so you only have small portions to work on. So the first layer you straighten is the hair that touches your neck, etc. Take your time, and clamp the straighteners from the roots and drag slowly down the hair strands. Use some straightening protection spray if you want.

Shampoo cleans – end of story. Don’t buy into all the different shampoo/conditioner promises – they clean and condition – so buy Suave and be done. You need “product” for your hair. Get a cheap gel and some type of straightening product – spritz, serum, whatever. Try the Got2B or Bedhead line of products – they have lots of stuff. Apply the gel and product and blow-dry your with a LARGE round brush. Hold the hairdryer close to the brush as you pull from your roots to the ends. You can slightly flip your ends under but don’t hold it there. Use some hairspray when you’re done to prevent fly-aways. Also, the hairspray will help keep it straight – without it, your natural curls may creep up on you during the day. If you’re lucky – you can get away with washing your hair every other day if you don’t use too much stuff in it – it should hold up and you can brush it out the next day and style again (don’t reapply product – just blow out your dirty hair).
