How will I assess the students ability to function within classroom?
Check with previous teachers how they were able to accommodate the student within their classroom. What worked for them may work for you. They may also be able to tell you strategies that were not very successful so that you can avoid them. Making instructions clear and concise and writing them down so the child knows exactly what is required will give you an ongoing sense of what adaptations are needed. The child is also likely to have been seen by the special education teacher in your school. Meet with the teacher and the parents to brainstorm some of the things that will be required before you go far into the school year.
