How will guidance on the Community Strategy ensure that sustainable development and the environment are sufficiently covered?
A17. Part 1 of the Local Government Act 2000 placed a duty on each principal council in England and Wales to prepare a community strategy to promote and improve the economic, social and environmental well-being of their areas and to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development in the UK. Guidance for the next round of Community Strategies will make very clear expectations on local authorities and their partners to ensure delivery of environmental issues and sustainable development.
