How will George Dubya be recorded in the history books?
First, let us remember that there hasn’t been a terrorist attack by foreign nationals on our soil since 9/11. Second, let us place the blame for the mortgage debacle squarely on the shoulders of Jimmy “Peanut” Carter and Bill “Pants Unzipped” Clinton. Carter for signing the Community Reinvestment Act in 1977 and Clinton for using it, beginning in 1993, as a way of social engineering – believing that getting low income and minority people, even though they didn’t qualify for a mortgage, into home ownership would somehow lessen poverty and violence in the inner city. Third, let us assign a share of the responsibility for the financial crisis to Wall Street as they packaged worthless mortgages into bundles and sold them as good investments to unsuspecting investors here and abroad. I believe history will place George W. Bush somewhere in the middle. Not the best nor the worst.
