How will Generation Scotland reassure people that the information is used properly?
The Generation Scotland Scientific Committee has the overall decision-making authority over access to and use of the resource within an explicit governance (management) framework. The structure and practices of the study have been approved by the Multi-Centre Research Ethics Committee. To ensure that Generation Scotland resources are best used to the advantage of participants and the wider community, the study also has an independent Advisory Board appointed by the Scottish Executive. The Generation Scotland Advisory Board comprises experts in genetics, law and ethics and lay people. The board is independent of the study and is charged with advising the Scientific Committee on conformance with the Governance framework, ensuring that the resource is best used in the public interest and advising on ethical issues that may arise during the study. If particular ethical issues arise the Advisory Board will be able to address these more widely with the public, the NHS, academic institutions
