How will FDA guard against false complaints?
As with any hotline, it will not be possible for FDA to determine whether a false complaint was filed. However, the complaint itself is not sufficient to trigger a letter notifying a retailer of a violation or a penalty proceeding. A complaint prompts FDA to schedule a compliance check as soon as practicable and, if the store is not selling to minors, it will not be subject to any sanctions.
