How will fauna in the proposed road corridor be affected?
A small colony of land snails are having new suitable snail environments established for them away from the road corridor. This land snail only occurs at the Hogbin Drive Site and at Bruxner Park and has been subject of extensive studies by the Australian Museum. Several over-mature Scribbly Gums at the northern end of the road corridor currently provide habitat for Squirrel Gliders. Some of these trees will require removal, although efforts will be made to retain existing habitat by suspending habitat boxes in the adjacent bushland area. This method has been used successfully to preserve Squirrel Glider populations in Northern NSW and Southern Queensland.
