How will extended schools be funded?

0

The Local Authority has an allocation in the general Sure Start Grant and the Standards Fund towards the development of extended services. Broadly the funding can be used to develop a workforce to manage extended services in schools or across clusters of schools, start up funding for new activities and to provide capital support. Local authorities should develop, in consultation with their school and other children’s services partners, a strategy for how this funding will be allocated. The strategy for Cheshire is currently being developed. The Government also intends to channel £250 million nationally direct to schools in 2006-2008. Every school will receive an allocation direct from the Government as part of their School Standards Grant to support schools to meet the challenge of developing extended services. Services will need to be developed in such a way as to ensure they are affordable and sustainable.
