How will consumers be better protected?
A. The overall goal of the Inquiry is to ensure long-term sustainable water supply and sewerage services for consumers in non-metropolitan NSW. Specific recommendations to protect consumers are: • That the Energy and Water Ombudsman NSW (EWON) scheme be adopted by local water utilities provided it can be demonstrated that there are net benefits in doing so. EWON provides an independent way of resolving customer complaints about all electricity and gas suppliers in New South Wales and some water suppliers. • Regulation of water supply and sewerage services are strengthened to ensure that all consumers across NSW receive the same standard of service • The oversight of pricing is strengthened, to ensure that customers receive a good product for the right price.
