How will changing the AQO help reduce Hong Kong’s air pollution?
The government uses the AQO to decide air pollution policy. If it is changed then the government will be forced to tighten up a raft of air pollution control measures including: • – Cracking down on power station emissions; • – Incorporating more measures to improve air quality in urban planning such as not building high rises too close to each other and creating more green spaces in the city; • – Making environmental regulations much stricter for infrastructure projects such as ensuring that flyovers are not built too close to residential areas.
