How will 911 service work on my cell phone if I am using an out-of-state telephone number?
Emergency 911 calls are automatically routed to the correct emergency service provider in the area where a call is made. So, even if your phone has a Los Angeles area code, a 911 call will be sent to Washington D.C., or wherever you are located when you call. For all emergency calls on-campus, however, you must call Public Safety (202-885-3636).
