How were the Pilgrim and Native American cultures alike/different?
Create a class Venn diagram to compare/contrast Pilgrim culture with the Northeast Indian culture using the flipbooks. Evaluation: The student will participate in class discussion comparing cultures on a Venn diagram. Lesson 10: Interaction Research Repeat the process of listening for information, focusing on interactions between the Pilgrims and Indians (e.g., read Squanto and the First Thanksgiving). Stress survival issues – who learned what from whom to survive. Use information from Venn diagram and new information from listening to make generalizations about Pilgrim/Indian interactions and create a chart: Indian activities involving Pilgrims Pilgrim activities involving Indians Taught them how to plant corn, etc. List conclusions at bottom of the chart (i.e., Pilgrims helped Indians and Indians helped Pilgrims) Evaluation: The student will contribute to class chart analyzing Pilgrim and Indian interactions.
