How were the numbers of new posts designed?
The 250 ACF posts across the country are designed to match opportunities later in training. Hence, it was estimated that there are around 210-220 research training fellowships per year, which allows for a small number of ACFs to drop out and others to come in from outside the ACF scheme. Next there should be around 200 lectureships per year comprising 100 new ACLs and equal matching new or established posts. Finally, the new Senior Lecturer posts should generate additional capacity at the higher levels, although numbers appear relatively small and detailed matching to lower grade expansion has not been promised yet.
