How were the intercept sites selected?
A. The survey sites were selected after a thorough review of all rest areas, travel plazas and truck stops located in the state of New York. Information that was reviewed included the number and types of vehicles that drive by the facility on a daily basis, the geographic location of the facility, the number of parking spaces at each facility, and comments regarding parking issues at each facility provided by NYSDOT personnel, NYSTA personal and NYS police personnel. Q. Are there any other types of data collection occurring other than interviewing truck drivers. A. During the time when surveying is occurring, our interviewers will also be counting the number of trucks that are parked at each intercept facility. Furthermore, we will be setting up Automatic Traffic Recorders (ATRs, sometimes referred to as tube counters) at the facility entrance and across the roadway.
