How Were the DUII and Two-Way Traffic Projects Funded?
The Downtown Utility Infrastructure Improvements Project (DUII) replaced the underground water, sewer, and storm infrastructure and sidewalks on Braddock and Cameron between Gerrard and Fairfax Lane. This project was originally scheduled to be completed in 2010-11 but the City chose to start construction early in order to save money. This project was necessary as the extremely old water and sewer infrastructure needed to be replaced. Some of the existing water mains in the project area are over 150 years old (see photo of wooden pipes found with the City’s utility infrastructure in 2004). The project schedule was expedited and completed in advance of converting Braddock and Cameron to two-way traffic.
