Nobody ever violated their right to free speech. They have a right to state their opinions about the government and have done so continually without being muzzled in any way. Likewise, people have the right to not listen to them. Not listening to someone is not the same as muzzling them. Some conservative radio stations (not all) stopped playing their music because their listeners overwhelmingly demanded they stop playing their music. In markets where that demand was limited their music still gets played. That’s not muzzling, nor is it a violation of their right to speak freely. It’s a way for people to exercise their own right to speak their mind freely. The Dixie Chicks knew precisely what they were doing, it’s not like they were ignorant of the political mindset of their fan base. If they didn’t want their fan base (and popularity) to shrink they would’ve kept their collective mouth shut. They felt that expressing their opinion was more important, so they said what they felt
