How were the District 202 boundaries set, and can the district be divided into smaller districts?
Boundaries for school districts have been established state-wide by the Illinois State Board of Education, and the District 202 Board of Education does not have the authority to change those boundaries. Illinois state education officials are also renewing efforts to merge school districts rather than having them break apart. Smaller school districts spend three times more of their budgets on administrative costs than larger school districts, according to research by the Chicago Tribune. District 202 spends just 1.01 percent of its budget on administrative and board costs, which is the second-lowest percentage in Will County and sixth best (of nearly 900 districts) in the state; the state-wide percentage for the same costs averages 3.11 percent.
