How were the Bach Flower Essences discovered?
Dr. Edward Bach, a licensed English physician, discovered the Essences in the late 1920s and early 1930s. He wanted to develop a method of healing which would treat the emotional and spiritual imbalances which lead to physical disease. He found certain wildflowers, trees, and in one case spring water whose essences were used to treat illness. He intuitively related particular flowers to a mental or emotional condition. He was trained in the rational methods of science and medicine, but in his later life began to manifest a deep sensitivity. He would go in long walks on the English countryside and intuitively “feel out” the flowers that would heal particular emotional states.
