How were the Ancient Greek theatres run?

I last studied this about 15 years ago, so I’m a bit rusty, but here goes… Ancient Greek theatres were religious festivals, put on in honour of one of the multitude of gods they worshipped. Dramatists would compete against each other on successive days for prizes. Originally there was only one actor, but after time this increased to two, and then three. Central to the performance was the Chorus, who were a group of singers and dancers. If you look at a Greek theatre, the focus of attention isn’t the stage that the actors were on, but the dancing platform in front of the stage.
