How were position reductions connected to the iS² Project?
One of the stated goals of the project is to reduce the cost of delivering support services. This can be achieved several ways, including finding efficiencies in processes and improved use of technology. This also includes position reductions. The university is a complex organization, and any organization at times needs to take a good hard look at its operations. The university must find ways to reduce expenses given the current budget situation. One of the university’s largest expenditures is its salary and benefits, which makes up approximately 60 percent of operating expenditures—this is one way in which we will reduce significant costs. By comparative data, the staff complement at the University of Calgary is greater on a per student basis than our comparator G13 universities.
