How were pay grades developed for the benchmarks?
The joint JE project team, comprised of members of CUPE 2950, as well as members of the University, revised the point factor plan that was used in the previous JE plan. The original 13 factors were reduced to 7 factors, which are more relevant to jobs in the CUPE 2950 bargaining unit. Each benchmark was evaluated against the revised factors, and points were applied, resulting in placement of benchmarks in the 10 new pay grades. The amount of funding available and the employee matches to benchmarks were incorporated into a complex costing exercise that determined the final pay scale.
