How well do Fluorescents work as grow lights?
Since fluorescents don’t produce much heat or intensity, they are a great option for the grower that can’t take the heat that’s associated with HID lights. However, there is a limit to what you can do with fluorescents. Due to the low intensity of the bulbs, the light won’t keep larger plants properly lit throughout the entire plant. So a 3 foot tall plant won’t be getting any light on the bottom half and needs to be switched to an HID light for maximum growth. Since plants are tallest during the blooming stage, fluorescents are generally reserved for the vegative stage where the plants are shorter and don’t need the penetrating light of an HID.
