How was young love during the elizabethan era comparable to romeo and juliet?
It was actually quite typical for people to marry young. However, the man tended to be a little older than her and of a higher status. A girl like Juliet might even become engaged to her second cousin or even first cousin. If she was the first child or the only child, then she might be married very early (such as 14 to 16) and being married at 18 seemed a little late to specific parts of society. Most of the time one did not marry for love but for money, security, and to produce more children and workers for the country that you lived in. Marriage was more a social obligation rather than a want in most cases. Hope this helps!
