How was this assessment undertaken in the Stradbroke Island Surface Water Management Area?

Development Potential: There is a low probabability of further development in this SWMA, as this basin is entirely an Island catchment consisting of crown leasehold land (except in the townships). There are three small settlements on Stadbroke Island that mainly cater for holiday makers and retirees. Dunwich, the largest settlement, is the service centre for the islands tourism and mineral sands extraction operations. Point Lookout also has a number of resorts that focus on tourism. These industires rely on the abundant supply of groundwater for their source of water on this sand island. Current and future demand for water should be met by this source. There is little potential for the development of a surface water storage due to the permability of the sandy soils. Management goals and objectives: No Detailed Management Plans have yet been developed.
