How was the southwest affected as a consequence of the civil war?
Answer Grace, The Southwest was probably the second least affected part of US territory during the Civil War (the least affected was the Pacific Northwest). Neither the North or the South fought much over the Southwest territory (there were a couple of minor battles out there, but they did not affect the overall war). After the war, the troops that dealt with Indian tribes, mostly US Cavalry troops, were led by Civil War officers, and many had extensive wartime experience. But aside from these better trained troops, I can’t think of any other major consequences for the Southwest.
