The Iran-Iraq War fought from 1980-1989 did see some chemical warfare. Iraq was accused of using deadly chemicals to eliminate villages in certain regions. Iraqi aircraft struck the US Navy Frigate, USS Stark, with an Air to Surface missile killing nearly 30 US Sailors in 1987 in the Persian Gulf. Later the USS Vincinnes accidently shot down a civilian airliner with a surface to air missile. The aircraft had appeared on their radar as a hostile aircraft.
