Same as any other. What you need to check out is the Weimar Republic – which was the new democratic system brought in after the abolition of Kaiser Wilhelm the Second. Hitler came to power legally, through popularity and propaganda. It’s really very interesting, as it’s something that tends to happen quite often. When the economy is going well, the mainstream party in power does well. But in times of distress (economy failing, war, etc) the extremist parties do better, as people tend to want more extreme action done. That’s basically how Hitler got into power – his party were the extremists of the time, and when things were going badly, the people voted him in to sort things – with disasterous results as we all know.
