How was the Hoover Dam built during the Great Depression? Wasn everyone bankrupt?
The federal government always has money because we all must pay taxes. In a depression, money has more value, if you have any. With a devalued currency, a dollar bought more, and had more value when spent. It was a productive, useful example of capital investment; it was an infrastructure improvement of great, continuing value. The Tennessee Valley Authority was at work during this same time, building dams across the South to bring electricity to the rural areas. That too has proved its value. That said, federal dams have created a “water socialism” that has lead to serious mis-use of water resources today, and gave rise to the “dam busting” efforts of some conservationists. http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G1-2046…
