How was the Bible interpreted at different times in history?
That’s a fairly large section of history to cover in a short space. However, we know that various Christian writings did not appear until the late first century and that from all of those writings, there was not a consensus of which were “inspired” until the council of Nicea in the fourth century. The Old testament books did not start appearing until after 1000 BCE and were not collected and pieced together until around 550 BCE. It is rather hard to tell how various sects and groups treated what they thought was scripture, Clearly, in many ways people really haven’t changed that much, so it is likely that some groups treated it more literally while others gave it a more metaphorical place. To compound this, there was not as much communication between cities and thus it was probably easier for different interpretations to exist ivarious parts of the country.
