How was the ADAA started?
In 1923, a small group of dedicated women met to explore the possibility of forming a national dental assisting association. Led by Juliette Southard, a NY dental assistant, the basis for the ADAA was formed at an ADA meeting in Cleveland in 1923. In 1924, a Constitution and Bylaws were presented and approved and the ADAA was on its way almost 40 years after Dr. Kells of New Orleans hired the first Lady in Attendance.
