How was the 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer teams determined?
Club teams are the player’s jobs. This is where they sign contracts, get paid the majority of their money, and play the majority of the games. The teams can choose to transfer the players to other clubs. The players can choose to leave teams and move to other teams. (Are you from America?) Club teams are like the Chicago Cubs or the Los Angeles Lakers or the Dallas Cowboys. The Chicago Cubs have plenty of foreign players on their team. For example, Kosuke Fukudome is from Japan. Carlos Zambrano is from Venezuela. Alfonso Soriano is from the Dominican Republic. And Derrek Lee is from America. Yet, they all represent Chicago (which is in America) — and this was because they signed a contract; they are getting paid big money to play in Chicago. The World Cup is like the Olympics. Here, pay is secondary and national pride is the bigger concern. Let’s say that I’m a student. Pretend I was originally born in Korea, am a Korean citizen, but came over to the United States to study in college.
