How was stained glass made in the medieval times?

well… glass is pretty much sand that has been heated and cooled really fast. In the process, iron based metallic oxide salts were added to the mix which they used to control the colors. gold would create a red shade, copper would make a greenish blue color so on and so on. they would use ground metals like lead, copper, silver to create glass paints and mix them with wine, urine, or vinegar. It took a true artist and engineer to make some of the elaborte designs, and I have no idea how they did it so well. If you’re ever in Chicago, stop by the museum of stained glass on Navy Pier… it’s free. Even my little kids thought it was cool. hope this helps…this is pretty much all I know.
