How was Slavery and Anti-Slavery: A Transnational Archive created?
The project started in 2005 when a board of renowned scholars was put together to review materials available from Primary Source Media and Scholarly Resources. Editorial board members made a selection among the available collections and recommended new ones for inclusion. Following that editorial board meeting, the original plan to have one database on slavery focused on the United States was revised to include more international coverage and to organize the database in parts that would allow for more in-depth research on slavery. Slavery and Anti-Slavery: A Transnational Archive is structured for a scholarly and in-depth analysis of the slave trade, the abolitionist movement, emancipation and of the institution of slavery in the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe.
