How was Nicholas 2 of Russia a bad leader?
It is accepted fact that Nicholas II, tsar of Russia from 1894 to l917, was a poor leader. However, it should be recognized that ruling such a vast country has always been a tremendous challenge. The old Soviet Union, and Nicholas’ Russia took in almost every time zone in the world. More abler men than Nicholas II failed in ruling this nation, including Alexander Kerensky and Mikhail Gorbachev. Yeltsin and Putin do not seem to have done well at ruling Russia. The simple answer to Nicholas being a bad leader was that he was too weak. In a democracy or republic like the United States we are different from the Russians. Frequently invaded by foreigners and ruled for two centuries by the cruel Mongols, the Russians seem to have responded better to the stick than the carrot. Peter the Great, Catherine the Great, Alexander, and even cruel leaders without redeeming value Lenin and Stalin, demonstrate this.
