How was it working overseas as DOSM for Pan Pacific in Singapore and later Vancouver?
The time I spent in Singapore and Vancouver was invaluable. Not only did I leave with a good understanding of how the Asian and North American markets worked, it also taught me a better understanding of cultures and how differently you sometimes have to think and deal with people in business situations. In Singapore, having responsibility for an 800 room hotel and a team of nearly 30 people was a good learning curve and some things I got to learn the hard way! I had to learn fast, not just about the hotel but of course the culture of the people and how to adjust my management style to blend with cultural expectations. The great thing about stepping out of your comfort zone is that eventually your comfort zone just gets bigger. How would you describe your Management Style?
