Customs officers in Laredo found a 31-year-old Mexican woman hidden in the suitcase of a Milwaukee, Wis., woman crossing the Gateway to the Americas International Bridge, officials said Monday. U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the discovery occurred Thursday after an officer referred the 1998 Ford Explorer driven by Maria Candelaria Moreno, 29, to a secondary inspection lane and examined her luggage. Candelaria Moreno was arrested along with passenger Ricardo Moreno Esparza, a 30-year-old Mexican citizen, on federal charges of aiding and abetting the illegal entry of an undocumented alien into the United States. The woman in the suitcase was held for removal back to Mexico.
