Children in ancient Sparta were taught self-denial, discipline, loyalty in Sparta, simplicity. Education in Sparta meant “healthy mind in healthy body” for both boys and girls. Boys left home at the age of 7 to live and train-educated until the age of 18. Also girls were educated, trained away from home until the age of 18. A healthy woman will have healthy babies (that was believed by ancient Spartans) In Athens boys started private elementary school at the age of 6 or 7 until the age of 14. At school they were taught literature, reading – writing, music and gymanstics. After 14 they went to primary school , but it was too expensive for poorer students so only rich people had the luxury of primary school. Many children had private philosophers or teachers. Girls in Athens did not go to school, if they had to learn something they would learn
