How treatable is salivary gland cancer, which Beastie Boy Adam Yauch has been diagnosed with?
LOS ANGELES, July 20 (Reuters) – Adam “MCA” Yauch, a founding member of rap group the Beastie Boys, said on Monday he has a cancerous tumor in his salivary gland, forcing the cancellation of the band’s upcoming concerts. Yauch said in an online video that the cancer is “very treatable in most cases,” and it is localized in his neck and not affecting his vocal chords. “I apologize to everybody, for anyone who’s made plans or was psyched to come to these shows that are coming up,” Yauch said. “We’ll be back doing this, so that’s what’s up.” As a result of the diagnosis, the Beastie Boys will push back the release of their upcoming album “Hot Sauce Committee Part 1,” the group’s record label EMI said. The album had previously been set for release on Sept. 15, and the tour would have supported its launch. No new dates were set. Beastie Boy Adam Yauch has ‘very treatable’ cancer: NEW YORK – In an upbeat video, Beastie Boy Adam “MCA” Yauch announced via the group’s Web site that he has a “very treatable” cancerous tumor in his salivary gland and a nearby lymph node. As a result, the band announced Monday it is canceling its tour dates and postponing the release of their upcoming album, “Hot Sauce Committee Part 1.” “About two months ago I started feeling a little lump in my throat,” Yauch, seated next to fellow Beastie Boy Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz, said in his video message on the site. “I started think I should talk to my doctor … and he sent me to a specialist, and they did tests, and I actually have a form of cancer.” Yauch, 43, said he will likely undergo surgery next week, followed up by some form of radiation. “The good news is that they did scans of my whole body and it’s only localized this one place, and it’s not in a place that effects my voice, so that’s nice,” he said with a laugh. “This is somethi

This Beastie Boy has to fight for his life. Emcee Adam “MCA” Yauch was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his left salivary gland, his record label EMI announced in a statement Monday. “Um . . . so this is crazy,” says Yauch, 44, with an awkward chuckle, in a video statement posted on the band’s official web site. “I have some pretty heavy news . . . I actually have a form of cancer.” Luckily, the cancer was caught pretty early and is still localized in just one area, making it “very treatable,” EMI reports. “Our thoughts, love and prayers are with Adam Yauch, his family and the Beastie Boys,” the label says in a statement. “The most important thing is to allow Adam to focus on staying healthy. We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.” Sources: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/music/2009/07/20/2009-07-20_beatie_boys_adam_yauch.
