When writing the outline for a research paper, you are laying the foundation for your research paper. The format is the first rule and should specifically followed. There should be three specific topics with three points for each. This rule is not concrete, however each topic should have at least 3 to 5 points to support your beliefs. The outline should allow you to organize your thoughts, put the material in a logical format, and defining boundries of different categories within the paper.
