You would probably need to go ahead and go into AT&T and set it up with a service plan, but it shouldn’t be a problem to use it on your family plan. The only thing you’ll really need to change is you’ll need to add a data package. However I would recommend watching prices on a used iPhone because a lot of the used ones will sell for more than it would cost if you bought one through AT&T because people are looking to buy iPhones without having to have AT&T service. If you’re eligible for upgrade, the 8GB iPhone will be $199, the 16GB will be $299. You could always go to an AT&T store and talk to them about it, too. Hope this helps!
