I used to have a macbook with basically those specifications and it ran leopard excellently. I have never personally updated an os on a mac, but I do believe you just need to back up your files and purchase the new OS disc. There is a lot of onboard stuff to help you back up your files and switch over to the new os. Apple geniuses can answer some of the questions that you may have as well. Based on system specs though, you’re golden.
