How to treat and cure a second degree burn at home ?
I burned my hand with hot cooking oil on Oct. 27th. I had to go to the ER because the burn was pretty bad and I learned some burn 101. It may be a bit late, but the first thing to do it run it under “cool” (NOT COLD) water for 20 minutes. If the burn is 2nd degree (blisters) and larger than 3 inches in diameter or over any joints you should get to the ER. They told me Ice is bad, butter is bad- in fact, everything should be avoided except cool water, which should stop the burn. Don’t pop the blisters, let them open on their own and only remove dead skin. Keep the area dressed (dry gauze works well) and change the dressing each day. If you have a fever, have a strange smell in the wound or if you are in a lot of pain, just go see a doc. Good luck, I feel your pain.
